  • Stafford Loan Counseling Sessions All new Stafford Loan borrowers are required to complete the federal Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling Session prior to disbursement of funds. You must maintain at least half-time enrollment to keep certain benefits for your loan. Half-time attendance is defined by Allegheny College as enrollment of at least 6 credits per semester. To complete the Direct Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling session, go to Direct Loan Servicing and select "Entrance and Exit Counseling," at the top of the page, then select the Entrance Counseling Session. Once the counseling session has been completed, Allegheny College Office of Financial Aid will receive electronic confirmation. Perkins Loan Counseling Sessions If you have received notice from the Office of Financial Aid that you are eligible for the Federal Perkins Loan, you will need to complete the required federal Perkins Entrance Counseling session. All first-time borrowers of the Federal Perkins loan are required to complete an Entrance Counseling Session before the proceeds from the loan can be credited to your college account. This on-line counseling session will provide you with an explanation of your rights and responsibilities as a Perkins Loan borrower. You must maintain at least half-time enrollment to keep certain benefits for your loan. Half-time attendance is defined by Allegheny College as enrollment of at least 6 credits per semester. To complete the federal Perkins Entrance Counseling session go to the Mapping Your Future website select "Complete Online Student Loan Counseling," and select "Perkins Entrance Counseling Session." Once the Perkins Counseling session has been completed, Allegheny College Office of Financial Aid will receive electronic confirmation. Exit Loan Counseling Students who are graduating, or plan to withdraw, take a leave of absence or drop below half-time are required to complete and Exit Loan Counseling session if they had a federal Stafford or Perkins Loan while enrolled, prior to entering into repayment in order to fully understand their rights and obligations under these programs. Half-time attendance is defined by Allegheny College as enrollment of at least 6 credits per semester. The Office of Financial Aid will send an Exit packet containing information regarding their loans, lenders, estimated payment amount and date of first payment. Follow the instructions enclosed in this packet to complete the appropriate counseling session. Once the online Exit Loan Counseling has been completed, the Financial Aid Office at Allegheny College will receive electronic notification. The National Student Loan Data System is available for students to view their loan and grant records and obtain additional information about their loans, such as balances and loan holder information. The SFA Ombudsman Office is available to help student borrowers informally resolve loan disputes and problems.
