  • Position Summary
    This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical position for the Department of Biological & Ecological Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU).

    Oregon State University Extension Services has partnered with the East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District to complete a needs assessment with local farmers. Successful candidates will support the project lead in applying qualitative research methods to achieve this objective.
    Position Duties
    50% – Data Collection and Transcription
    Successful candidates will be responsible for assisting the project lead in conducting focus groups and in transcribing interviews using ExpressScribe transcription software. Focus group results and transcribed interviews will be coded and analyzed by the project lead, and will serve as the basis for the final project report.

    30% – Recruitment
    Student project assistants will also support the project lead in creating and distributing recruitment materials through partner organizations, social media, and farm groups.

    20% – Data Analysis Support and Check-Ins
    Successful applicants will participate in weekly or bi-weekly meetings with the project lead to discuss the project’s progress.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
    Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
    Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

    *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
    Additional Required Qualifications
    Strong listening and typing skills
    Strong writing skills (i.e., spelling and grammar)
    Ability to work independently and on short deadlines
    Preferred (Special) Qualifications
    Experience conducting qualitative research
    Academic background in agricultural sciences OR experience working in agricultural contexts
