  • Summary of Position
    We are seeking an acoustics data analyst to support the processing of passive acoustic recordings and echosounder data from the Gulf of Maine. The analyst would be supervised by Dr. Jennifer Miksis-Olds (Center for Acoustics Research and Education within the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space) at the University of New Hampshire. The analyst will also engage with collaborators and students to support ongoing lab programs and projects. The analyst will 1) characterize broad metrics of marine soundscapes, 2) participate in manual analysis of marine mammal and fish sounds from passive recordings, and 3) be involved with the processing of acoustic backscatter from echograms of fish and zooplankton.

    Required Qualifications
    We are seeking an individual with connections to the K-12 community with experience in acoustic analysis of passive acoustic recordings. Applicants must have a 4-year degree. A MS in a biological science discipline is preferred. Ideally the analyst would have experience in both characterizing broad metrics of diversity in marine sound as well as skill in identifying marine mammal signals from passive acoustic recordings. Applicants should demonstrate capabilities for signal processing and programming, working on a team towards common goals, and communicating research to a K-12 audience. We hope the analyst will be excited to work closely with graduate and undergraduate researchers in the Center for Acoustics Research and Education.
